Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

The college had early launch and college students had been launched at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

According to police, the dad or mum, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His harm was not severe.

The varsity district mentioned White was contained in the building, near the lobby space, and never within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officials mentioned there was no threat made and the guardian did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff have been injured. The father or mother was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds instantly considered the worst once they were notified.

No father or mother ever wants there to be a cause for them to get a text message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help but suppose the worst after they do.

"After I obtained the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed said.

While most occasions, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that figuring out what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different.

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington school and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a college capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his college.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve received to run anyplace that’s safe and hide," she informed her baby.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing must be achieved now. 

"They want to talk about it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to truly cross any laws and do something," he added.
