Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech large said its iconic music participant has been replaced by different devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, stated: "Right now, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an unimaginable music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with help for spatial audio - there is not any better strategy to take pleasure in, discover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the first MP3 participant that could maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented an entire new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your whole music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he said on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same once more."

Related MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success because the iPod.

Apple has launched five variations of its music player - the Traditional, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range in recent years, with mobile phone technology enabling customers to listen to music providers on their phones.

In 2014, the classic click wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano were killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the only model nonetheless on sale at this time.

Without the iPod, there would by no means have been an iPhone or iPod, in accordance with its inventor Tony Fadell.
