Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech large said its iconic music participant has been replaced by different devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, stated: "Right now, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've built-in an unimaginable music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with assist for spatial audio - there isn't any higher solution to get pleasure from, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that would hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new category of digital music participant that lets you put your whole music assortment in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he said on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same again."

Related MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the identical success because the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 versions of its music player - the Basic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod vary in recent times, with mobile phone know-how enabling prospects to listen to music companies on their telephones.
