Guardian with concealed weapon by accident shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

The varsity had early release and students have been launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the guardian, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His damage was not serious.

The school district stated White was inside the constructing, near the foyer area, and not in the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers mentioned there was no risk made and the father or mother did not have "malicious intent."

No students or employees had been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst when they had been notified.

"Once I acquired the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to happen.’ I was shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty capturing, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to highschool in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his faculty.

"If one thing happened, you’ve got to run anyplace that’s secure and conceal," she told her child.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is just too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned something must be accomplished now. 

"They need to discuss it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to really cross any laws and do anything," he added.
